The St Louis Blues made Canada Day interesting Tuesday, July 1 for a pair of Canadians, as they were involved in a trade on the first day that NHL teams could conduct deals ahead of the 2025-26 season.
The Blues acquired defenseman Logan Mailloux from the Montréal Canadiens in exchange for forward Zac Bolduc. Mailloux split time between Montréal and their AHL affiliates Laval, scoring two goals and two assists in seven regular season games for the Habs, while representing the Rocket for the second straight season in the AHL All-Star Game. The Ontario native spent his junior career at the London Knights, leading the OHL in goals for a defenseman in 2023 before he was drafted by the Canadiens.
In exchange for Mailloux, the Blues sent Bolduc back to his native Quebec. The 22-year-old was drafted in 2021 by the Blues with the 17th overall pick. Bolduc wore the Note in 97 games, recording 24 goals and 21 assists. 19 of those goals were in the most recent season.
Also Tuesday, the Blues announced the signing of a two-year contract with forward Nick Bjugstad, totaling three-and-a-half million dollars. Bjugstad appeared in 66 games last season for Utah, scoring eight goals and adding 11 assists. The 32-year-old has scored 157 goals in his career across six teams. The Blues also tendered qualifying offers to three of their prospects at AHL affiliate Springfield, forward Nikita Alexandrov, defenseman Hunter Skinner, and goaltender Vadim Zherenko.
