
The St. Louis Cardinals were shutout for the third straight game, getting swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates after a 5-0 loss Wednesday afternoon.
The Cardinals loaded the bases in the first inning, but Pittsburgh starter Mitch Keller got Thomas Saggese to ground out to first to escape the jam.
The Pirates took the lead in the second when Tommy Pham hit an RBI single off Sonny Gray. The Pirates added to their lead in the seventh with RBI hits from Pham, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and Spencer Horwitz to make it 5-0.
Four of those runs were charged to Gray, who exited after one out in the seventh. He allowed four runs on five hits and a walk, striking out six in the process.
The Cardinals only recorded six hits in the ballgame.
St. Louis falls to 47-41 on the season, slipping further behind Milwaukee and Chicago in the NL Central. The Cardinals have a travel day on Thursday before arriving in Chicago for the start of a three-game series against the Cubs on Friday. Miles Mikolas is expected to make the start for St. Louis. First pitch begins at 1:20 p.m.
