One of the three elementary school buildings recently closed by Marshall Public Schools is in need of a new buyer.
The fate of the former Northwest School was the main topic of discussion at the Wednesday, July 2 meeting of the Marshall board of education, including a closed session. Supt. Caleb Petet says the previous deal agreed to last month fell through.
During public comment, Salt Fork YMCA CEO Kirk Alexander addressed the board about efforts to expand licensed day care openings in Saline County. Alexander told board members that The Y, along with the Marshall Saline Development Corporation, have identified Northwest as a potential location that could host a daycare with 200 spots for children under six. Petet says the group is among the interested buyers.
Action during Wednesday’s regular session was limited to the approval of a co-op in junior high sports and activities with Hardeman R-10, and moving the next school board meeting to Tuesday, August 26th at 6 p.m. The annual tax rate hearing will take place that afternoon at 5:45 p.m.
