A Slater woman lost her life after her vehicle was struck by oncoming traffic Thursday, July 3.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the 84-year-old was driving her minivan south on Business Route 65 around 9 a.m., about to continue onto southbound U.S. Route 65 at the southern edge of Marshall. According to troopers, the minivan drove into the path of a northbound tractor trailer driven by a 32-year-old man from New Franklin. The truck struck the driver’s side of the van, sending the van into the median. The truck then crossed the median into the southbound lane, coming to rest on the west side of the roadway.
The van’s driver and her 85-year-old passenger were flown to a Columbia hospital, where the driver was pronounced dead a couple hours later. Her passenger suffered moderate injuries, while the truck driver had no reported injuries.
