The middle of the Arizona Diamondbacks lineup rattled Kansas City Royals pitching, claiming five of the eight hits including four RBIs in Saturday’s 7-1 Royals loss at Chase Field in Phoenix.

After Royals starter Michael Wacha hit one batter with a pitch and walked the next one with one out in the third, Josh Naylor and Eugenia Suárez delivered back-to-back singles to bring home Arizona’s first two runs. Another freebie pair of base runners to start the fifth ended Wacha’s afternoon, with both runners coming home when Lourdes Gurriel Jr hit a two-out double off John Schriber. The Royals would get their only run in the sixth when Bobby Witt Jr singled home Freddy Fermin. The Diamondbacks would add an RBI double in the seventh, then score two runs on an inside-the-park home run by Randal Grichuk.

Michael Wacha lasted just over four innings for his ninth loss of the season, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks, but striking out four. Ryne Nelson went seven innings for Arizona in the win, allowing the one Royals run on four hits, while recording five strikeouts.

The Royals are now 42-48 and third in the AL Central, 14 games behind Detroit in the division and 5.5 games behind Seattle for the third wild card spot. Michael Lorenzen will get the start for KC on Sunday afternoon, while Arizona’s Anthony DeSclafani will make his first start in nearly two years. First pitch is at 3:10 p.m., with pregame at 2:30 p.m. on KMMO AM 1300.
