A Sweet Springs man was arrested and charged after stealing a truck and leading authorities on a chase through Sedalia on Tuesday, July 8.

According to a the Sedalia Police Department, officers took a stolen vehicle report at 5:57 a.m. Tuesday. The victim showed surveillance video of the suspect getting in the truck and driving away.

Officers located that same vehicle later that day, driving north at the intersection of Highway 65 and Rebar Road. When police attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle failed to yield speeding away before eventually turning east onto Bothwell Park Road.

The truck was eventually found abandoned in a soybean field. Sedalia Police, along with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, managed to catch both occupants of the stolen vehicle after a ground search. The driver, identified as Christopher Miller, was taken into custody and formally charged. The other suspect was arrested, but no formal charges have been filed at this time.

Millers is facing felonies for stealing a motor vehicle, aggravated fleeing, resisting arrest, armed criminal action, tampering with a motor vehicle, property damage in the first degree, and leaving the scene of an accident. Due to the severity of the charges and Miller’s prior convictions, no bond has been allowed.

No hearings have been set at this time.
