A groundbreaking ceremony will be held for the Marshall Energy Center project on Tuesday, July 22.

This facility will serve the energy needs for municipalities in Missouri Public Energy Pool #1, helping produce energy to cover gaps in renewable energy production. This natural gas power plant will have the capacity to generate nearly 130 megawatts. Marshall Municipal Utilities General Manager Jeff Bergstrom says construction will begin in August, with the project to be completed in two phases.

Bergstrom says this project will not only benefit the City of Marshall, but all the surrounding communities within the energy pool.

The groundbreaking will begin 9 a.m. at 308 North Grant Avenue.
