
The St. Louis Cardinals couldn’t survive the early offensive explosion from the Atlanta Braves, falling 6-5 on Friday, July 11.
Atlanta got to Matthew Liberatore early, tagging him with three runs in the first inning, capped off with a two-run home run from Sean Murphy.
St. Louis got two runs back in the first thanks to an RBI double from Alec Burleson and a single from Willson Contreras.
Atlanta added to their lead in the second and third with RBI hits from Ronald Acuna Jr. and Drake Baldwin, as well as Murphy’s second homer of the day.
The Cardinals got back within a run thanks to a two-run single from Pedro Pages and an RBI knock from Victor Scott II, but Atlanta maintained the lead the rest of the way.
Liberatore took the loss, allowing all six runs on nine hits and a walk, while recording no strikeouts over three innings.
St. Louis falls to 50-45, 5.5 games back of Chicago in the NL Central. The Cardinals will look to even the series today. First pitch at Busch Stadium is set for 1:15 p.m.
