The Kansas City Royals let a two run lead slip away, falling 8-3 to the New York Mets on Friday, July 11.

New York got on the board first after Pete Alonso drew a bases loaded walk in the third inning. That would be the only damage allowed by Royals starter Michael Wacha, who went five innings, giving up two hits and three walks.

The Royals tied the game in the sixth after Nick Loftin served an RBI double to left field, scoring Salvador Perez. KC would grab its first and only lead in the game an inning later thanks to a two-run homer of the bat of Bobby Witt Jr.

The Mets loaded the bases in the top of the eighth inning, which set the stage for Mark Vientos to clear the bags with a three-run double, giving New York the lead again.

New York added some insurance in the ninth after Francisco Lindor crushed a three-run homer and Juan Soto added a solo shot to cap off a four run inning.

Steven Cruz picked up the loss, being charged with all three runs in the eighth inning.

The Royals fall to 46-49, slipping to third in the AL Central and 13 games back of Detroit for the division lead. Kansas City also falls four games back in the Wild Card. The Royals will look to even the series with New York today. Pregame coverage begins at 2:30 p.m., with first pitch at 3:10 on KMMO AM 1300.
