frog-gigging

The Missouri Department of Conservation is inviting kids from ages five to 15 to participate in a frog gigging clinic later this month at the Blind Pony Hatchery northeast of Sweet Springs.

Participants are encouraged to sign up and make their way to the hatchery the evening of Friday, July 25. They’ll have the opportunity to taste cooked frog legs and experience frog gigging first hand at the hatchery’s ponds. Gigging equipment will be provided, but participants will need to bring their own flashlight.

The clinic comes as frog season is underway now through Oct. 31. The daily limit is eight bullfrogs or green frogs combined, with 16 in possession. Those participating in the clinic will not need a permit.
