A Sedalia man was arraigned Monday, July 14 on charges of kidnapping and domestic assault after a weekend altercation at his home.

Sedalia Police say they responded to a call on the 900 block of East 7th Street around 8:20 p.m. Saturday night. In their arrest report, officers say the caller was checking on a friend when she didn’t show up for dinner, and found her outside the home with injuries. Court documents allege that 29-year-old Phillip L Johnson Junior prevented the victim from leaving with the caller, picking her up and taking her back into the residence. According to the probable cause statement, Johnson restrained the victim in a bedroom, resulting in her throwing her car keys at Johnson. Johnson then allegedly threw her around the room and puller her by her hair. Officers noted in their statement that they found the victim’s clothing thrown out of the house, along with a broken table and shattered television.

Johnson has been charged with second degree domestic assault and third-degree kidnapping. His bond has been set at $15,000. His next hearing is set for the afternoon of July 22.
