The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to waive wide receiver Justyn Ross, ahead of the start of next week’s training camp in St Joseph.

Multiple outlets include the NFL Network are reporting that Ross requested his release Wednesday, July 16, as the Clemson product has caught the ball just six times in his three seasons with the Chiefs. Ross signed with KC as an undrafted rookie in 2022, but struggled to get playing time in a crowded receiver room, even as several of Patrick Mahomes’ top targets dealt with injury. He had been one of the Chiefs’ roster cuts at the end of the last preseason and signed to the practice squad, and signed a reserve/future contract just after last February’s Super Bowl.

Ross had been a freshman standout at Clemson, catching a touchdown in the Tigers’ win over Alabama in the 2019 College Football Playoff national championship game, but his numbers since hadn’t come close to that peak since a spinal injury sidelined him in 2020.
