A staple in the Kansas City Chiefs defensive line is signing a four-year extension.
ESPN and other outlets are reporting that the Chiefs have reached an agreement with defensive end George Karlaftis on a four-year deal worth $93 million, including a guaranteed $62 million. Karlaftis has two years remaining on his rookie deal, meaning that he’ll be under contract with the Chiefs until 2030. Since being drafted in 2022 from Purdue, Karlaftis has recorded 24.5 sacks and earned the moniker “Furious George” for his consistent pursuit of the opposing quarterback. Last season Karlaftis recorded eight sacks and 28 quarterback hits, as well as five pass breakups and 35 tackles. He also had four sacks and eight hits during last season’s playoffs.
The deal comes ahead of Chiefs training camp opening Wednesday in St Joseph.
A former Mizzou Tiger has become the first player in his draft position to ink a guaranteed rookie deal.
Late last week, it was reported by several outlets including The Sporting News that wide receiver Luther Burden III would sign a fully guaranteed contract with the Chicago Bears worth $10,965,000. This would make Burden the first-ever player drafted 39th overall to sign such a deal. During his time at Mizzou, Burden caught 192 passes for 2263 yards and 21 touchdowns, and is likely to be a regular target for quarterback Caleb Williams as the Bears try to make themselves seen in a stacked NFC North division.
