More than 30 people were on hand to celebrate the start of a four-year, $175-million project to build a new gas-turbine power plant in Marshall.

The Missouri Public Utility Alliance joined Marshall Municipal Utilities and city leaders at Tuesday morning’s groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the plant, which will provide power to not just Marshall, but also 52 other municipal utilities across Missouri. MPUA President and CEO Steve Stodden says the project will provide Missourians with reliable energy service for generations to come.

Stodden commended the collaboration with Marshall to make the plant possible, which Stodden says also received buy in from cities around the state.

Marshall Mayor Craig Thompson, state representative Brad Pollitt of Sedalia, and Missouri Public Service Commission chair Kayla Hahn also spoke at Tuesday morning’s ceremony.
