The St. Louis Cardinals have designated right-handed pitcher Erick Fedde for assignment, also recalling Andre Granillo from AAA Memphis.
The announcement came soon after Fedde’s recent outing in Colorado, where he allowed six runs over three innings and picked up his tenth loss of the year. Since May 14, Fedde is 0-7 with an ERA of 6.38 across 12 starts.
The move will also open the door for younger talent to step into the rotation, with Michael McGreevy being the primary candidate for Manager Oli Marmol. McGreevy owns a 3.49 ERA in 28.1 innings for the Cardinals this season. In his most recent outing, which also came against Colorado, he went seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits.
Granillo has made five appearances out of the bullpen for the Cardinals this season.
