The Fayette Board of Aldermen held a discussion over future options for city law enforcement during its meeting on Tuesday, July 22.

The City of Fayette is one of the few Missouri communities with an elected City Marshall. Administrator Deanna Cooper says the board is considering a change to remove that position in favor of a city appointed Chief of Police.

Cooper notes the board also discussed ideas to help fight the recent struggles law enforcement agencies have had with recruiting and maintaining their numbers.

One of the ideas discussed by the board was merging the city’s police force with county law enforcement to have access to more resources to protect Fayette residents. The board didn’t take any action on the ideas discussed at the meeting.

In other news, the board approved a contribution to the Fairgrounds Association of Howard County for its multipurpose building project. Cooper says Fayette’s initial contribution totaled around $12,000.
