The St. Louis Cardinals got just enough offense in a 3-0 shutout victory over the San Diego Padres on Friday, July 25.
St. Louis got a solid outing from starter Miles Mikolas, who allowed no runs over five innings of work.
The offense provided him all the run support he’d need in the second inning, after Yohel Pozo drove home Willson Contreras with an RBI groundout. The Cardinals added to their lead in the fourth after Masyn Winn drove home two runs with a double.
The Cardinals were outhit 11-5, but San Diego was 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position.
St. Louis improves to 54-51, eight games back of Milwaukee in the NL Central, and 1.5 games back in the wild card. The Cardinals will look to make it three in a row as their four games series against San Diego continues today. First pitch at Busch Stadium is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
