The St Louis Cardinals netted five runs in the seventh inning to put away the Miami Marlins 7-1 on Monday, July 28 at Busch Stadium to keep pace in the NL Wild Card chase.

Alec Burleson sent a fly ball to center field for a solo home run in the third, the first run of the game. The Cardinals would double the lead in the fourth when Edward Cabrera unleased a wild pitch, allowing Yohel Polo to score on the throwing error by Marlins catcher Agustín Ramírez.

The seventh inning rally for the Cardinals would begin with a one-out double to Victor Scott II, then back-to-back walks to load the bases. Scott would score after Burleson was awarded first on a catcher interference call. Masyn Winn would empty the bases on a double to left field, then come home on a Jordan Walker double. The only run for the Marlins came with two outs in the ninth, when Heriberto Hernandez claimed an RBI single. Andre Pallante turned in a gem for his sixth win of the year, allowing just one hit and one walk in seven innings while fanning four.

Now 55-53, the Cardinals remain nine games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central while keeping pace with San Diego at three-and-a-half games backfor the third wild card spot. Sonny Gray will have the start for the Cardinals on Tuesday evening, with first pitch at 6:45 p.m.
