While construction continues on a new series of J-turns along U.S. Route 50 west of Warrensburg, the Missouri Department of Transportation is preparing for the installation of another set of J-turns further west.

MoDOT Area Representative Marisela Ward says the intersection improvements set to go in this fall will involve an area that has seen several accidents.

According to MoDOT’s project files, the intersection of NW 1601st Road with U.S. Route 50 in Elm has seen 13 right-angle crashes over the past five years, three of them fatal.

Elsewhere, Ward reminds residents of the upcoming Improve I-70 open houses next week for the phase to add a third lane in each direction from Blue Springs to Mayview.

Both open houses will run from 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., with a public comment opportunity also available on MoDOT’s website beginning Monday, Aug. 4.
