Lafayette County residents ages 62 and older hoping to apply for a senior tax credit to freeze their residential real estate tax rate don’t have much time left to complete the application, with the deadline set for Thursday, July 31.

Northern Commissioner Monica Ritter says the commission previously voted to implement SB190, allowing seniors in the county to take advantage of the tax credit for future tax bills.

Ritter notes residents will see that credit take effect immediately on this year’s tax bill.

Ritter says more than 1,300 residents have turned in application. Applications are due by the end of the day on Thursday.
