The Sedalia School District 200 Board of Education voted Tuesday, July 29 to not go forward with an application that could have seen the district offer all student meals without charge for the upcoming school year.

After setting meal prices at their June meeting, Supt. Doctor Todd Fraley says the district would attempt to seek the support from USDA and the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, which would waive the charge for all student meals and not just those who qualify for free and reduced pricing. Fraley tells KMMO News that the numbers did not come back favorably for Sedalia Schools to participate in the Community Eligibility Provision.
.

Fraley says uncertainty over how the federal government will handle free and reduced student meals also played into the district’s decision.

New prices that take effect next month in Sedalia will see lunch cost $2.35 for elementary students and $2.50 for secondary students. Breakfast will remain free for elementary students and $1.35 for secondary students. Adult meal prices will increase to $2.50 for breakfast and $3.50 for lunch. Also at Tuesday night’s meeting, the board approved adding a part-time food service position at the middle school.
