
(11:30 a.m. Update:) A Carrollton man is facing charges after a two-vehicle crash in Benton County on Wednesday, July 30 left a Lincoln woman dead and a juvenile passenger in her car injured.
In a probable cause statement filed Thursday morning in Benton County Circuit Court, troopers accuse 44-year-old Robbie Acton of Carrollton of fleeing the accident scene on foot into a wooded area. The statement notes that Benton County Sheriff Eric Knox had apprehended Acton about a mile from the crash scene. Authorities say they noticed a “strong odor of intoxicants” on Acton, and that his eyes appeared watery and bloodshot. After treatment at a Sedalia hospital for minor injuries, Acton was taken to the Benton County Jail. He now faces charges of driving while intoxicated resulting in the death of another, and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. Acton’s bond has been set at $250,000.

A Lincoln woman lost her life after a two-vehicle collision on a Benton County roadway Wednesday, July 30.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the crash around 7:25 p.m. on Route H near the Edmonson area, six miles southeast of Lincoln. According to the patrol’s report, a pickup driven by a 44-year-old man from Carrollton crossed the center line as he was going northbound, resulting in the collision with an SUV driven by the 44-year-old Lincoln woman. The crash sent both vehicles off the roadway.
The Lincoln driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while her 11-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries and was taken to a Sedalia hospital. The driver of the pickup also suffered minor injuries and was treated in Sedalia. Troopers say none of the three people involved in the crash were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
