The Kansas City Royals offense came up big for starter Michael Wacha, crushing four home runs in a 9-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday, August 1.

The Blue Jays tagged Wacha with an early run in the first inning after Vladimir Guerrero Jr. blasted his 16th homer of the year to left field. After allowing that run, Wacha would settle in and only allow two hits over the next seven innings. Wacha went eight innings, allowing one run on three hits for his fifth win of the year.

The Royals gave Wacha the lead in the second inning, when Mike Yastrzemski connected on a two-run homer in his first at-bat with the Royals. Bobby Witt Jr. added to the lead with his 16th homer of the year, a three-run shot in the third.

The Royals poured it on in the ninth, with Salvador Perez hitting a solo homer to lead off the inning. Adam Frazier got in on the fun with a two-run shot to right field. The Royals scored their final run thanks to an RBI single from Maikel Garcia.

Toronto got two runs back in the bottom of the ninth, but the Kansas City lead was too much to overcome as the Royals got back to .500 (55-55) with the win.

The Royals now sit 8.5 games back of Detroit for the AL Central lead. Kansas City is also 3.5 games back of Seattle for the third wild card spot. The Royals will go for the series win in Toronto today. Pregame coverage begins at 1:30 p.m., with first pitch at 2:07 on KMMO AM 1300.
