Residents in areas served by Evergy Missouri West are closer to receiving electricity generated by five future facilities.
The Missouri Public Safety Commission granted certificates of public convenience and necessity Thursday to three gas turbine plants and two solar farms in Missouri and Kansas. The two largest gas turbines will each generate up to 710 megawatts and be located in south central Kansas, one south of Wichita and the other outside Hutchinson. A third gas turbine, set to generate 440 megawatts, will go at Evergy’s Mullin Creek Generation Station south of Maryville. The PSC also approved a 100-megawatt solar farm near Joplin, and a 65-megawatt solar farm in southeast Kansas. The commission says they agreed with Evergy that the five plants will meet anticipated load growth needs.
