A handful of communities will have ballot measures to consider Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025, including a proposed school district consolidation in Macon County.
Patrons of the Bevier C-4 and Callao C-8 districts will consider a measure to combine the two districts along U.S. Route 36. If approved by both districts, the consolidation would take effect in July 2026, with residents in both seeing their tax levy ceiling set at $3.99 per $100 of assessed valuation. Meanwhile in the City of Macon, residents there are considering the renewal of their one-half-cent transportation sales tax.
Elsewhere, residents in the Pettis County Fire Protection District Number One are being asked to consider an increase in their tax levy, not to exceed $0.48 per $100 of assessed valuation, to provide additional funds for the district. All votes will be cast at the Pettis County Clerk’s Office at 215 E. Fifth Street in Sedalia.
Two communities in Lafayette County are also going to the polls. The City of Concordia is asking its residents to authorize the collection of a local use tax at the same rate as the city’s local sales tax, while residents in the surrounding Concordia Special Road District are being asked to grant a four-year renewal to a $0.33 levy. Bates City residents will have the chance to weigh in on a proposal from Oak Grove R-VI Schools to increase their operating tax levy ceiling to $3.6061 to cover general operating expenses including teacher salaries and the enhancing of district technology and STEM programs.
Johnson County voters also in the Oak Grove School District will cast their votes on the measure in neighboring Jackson County, at the Mid-Continent Library at 2320 S. Broadway in Oak Grove. Also in Johnson County, the Knob Noster R-VIII School District is also seeking an increase in their tax levy ceiling to $3.80 to build additional components at the new high school campus. Knob Noster patrons in Pettis County will have to cast their votes at the Pettis County Clerk’s office.
Residents of Meadville R-IV will return to the polls to consider the district’s $1.2 million bond measure to fund improvements to the district’s campus. The measure had passed in April but was blocked by the state auditor’s office because notifications about that election did not conform to state statute. The state auditor’s office is also requiring the Higbee Area Fire Protection District to re-run a proposed bond measure totaling $1.62 million, after measures passed in August and November 2024 didn’t comply with state statute notification requirements.
