The Higginsville Board of Aldermen approved a contract with RTS Waste Services for residential solid waste disposal services during its meeting on Monday, August 4.

RTS has been the city’s collector for residential solid waste services since August 2022. The city sent out a request for bids in May 2025, and RTS was the only company to submit a bid. City Administrator Jeanette Dobson says the city has been pleased with the service RTS has provided and was happy to enter into a five-year contract with the company, even with a slight increase in rates.

Residential weekly pickup is increasing 90 cents immediately for the next three years, with extra increases planned in the fourth and fifth years of the contract. The monthly cost to each resident will b $14.75 for the first three years, $15.25 for the fourth year, and $15.75 for the fifth and final year.

In other news, the board approved a mutual aid agreement for emergency medical services with the Wellington-Napoleon Fire Protection District.
