An 87-pound goat from Miller County is this year’s Grand Champion Meat Goat at the Missouri State Fair.

Thomas Limbach of the Eldon FFA chapter exhibited the top goat at Wednesday afternoon’s show. Limbach tells KMMO News his champion goat, whom he named Nibbles, was one of the friendliest goats he’s worked with.

Limbach is a student at the Missouri School for the Blind in St Louis and during the school year had just the weekends back home to work with his goats. He says he’s eager to make a return trip to the Sale of Champions, having exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion goat in 2021.

Limbach expressed gratitude for his parents Dennis and Twyla Limbach, as well as his family and supporters. He also credited last year’s Reserve Grand Champion exhibitor Ty Murphy of Houstonia, who stepped in to guide Limbach around the ring.

Alexis Koelling of Bowling Green will return to the Sale of Champions, this time with the Reserve Grand Champion Meat Goat. The grand champion from the 4-H division was exhibited by Aubree Sloan, while Maddox Wiss had the reserve 4-H goat.

The Missouri State Fair officially begins Thursday in Sedalia, with the queen contest taking place in the Mathewson Exhibition Center and the Market Lamb show in the Sheep Pavilion. The Sale of Champions is set for Aug. 16 in the Lowell Mohler Assembly Hall.  KMMO plans to carry the sale on our website.
