Concordia voters gave approval to a measure on Tuesday’s August Special Election, allowing the city to impose a local use tax at the same rate as the total local sales tax rate for online purchases from out of state sources.
The measure narrowly passed with a 47-44 vote. City Administrator Dale Klussman said the city was motivated to pursue this tax measure after looking at the tax collection numbers for Lafayette County.
Klussman says this measure will benefit the brick and mortar stores in the city.
Only about 5.75 percent of registered voters in Concordia took part in the election. Klussman says he hopes more residents will get involved and use their votes at future elections.
