The Slater City Council approved two picnic licenses for an upcoming demolition derby event in the city limits.

Despite not having a quorum, the council was still able to approve picnic licenses to Margarita’s Mexican Cuisine and Holiday Lanes to serve alcohol at the event. The derby will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, August 30 at the Slater Airport.

In other news, Slater Mayor Terry Jordan reported that the Saline County Sheriff’s Office responded to 145 calls for service in the city last month. Deputies also initiated 38 traffic stops and 14 citations in city limits. Jordan also reported that August 13 is the last day the Slater Municipal Pool will be open this summer.

The council’s next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 19. The council will also hold a public hearing to set the city’s tax rate prior to that meeting.
