A heat advisory affecting central and west-central Missouri is remaining in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday, August 9.

Heat index values of up to 108 degrees are expected. Residents should take extra precautions to avoid heat related illness. Some of these precautions include drinking plenty of fluids, staying in an air-conditioned room, staying out of the sun, and wearing lightweight and loose fitting clothing.

The advisory is in effect in the counties of Saline, Lafayette, Howard, Johnson, Pettis, and Cooper in the KMMO listening area.
