The Minnesota Twins took advantage of a rare off outing from Seth Lugo, defeating the Kansas City Royals 9-4 at Target Field on Friday, August 8.

The Royals jumped out to an early lead after Mike Yastremski hit a lead-off homer to start the game. The Twins responded in the bottom of the first, plating three runs thanks to a home run from Matt Wallner, an RBI single from Luke Keaschall, and a fielder’s choice.

Lugo would then allow a pair of runs in each the second and fourth innings. He lasted four innings, giving up seven runs on nine hits with two walks.

The Royals got a run back in the sixth after a solo homer from Bobby Witt Jr. Vinnie Pasquantino and Kyle Isbel rounded out the Royals scoring with RBI singles in the eighth and ninth.

Kansas City falls to 57-59, 9.5 games back of Detroit in the AL Central, and four games back of the wild card.

The Royals will look to even the series today, with Noah Cameron getting the start. Pregame coverage begins at 5:30, with first pitch at 6:10 on KMMO AM 1300.
