Irma was a lifelong Marshall resident, graduating from Marshall High School in 1948, before attended Missouri Valley College. On November 28, 1953, she married Richard A. Whitlock who preceded her in death on December 15, 1989.
As a young woman, Irma worked in the family business, Horman Meat Company. Shortly after marriage, she joined Richard & his father John in owning and operating Whitlock Coal & Equipment. While the family businesses remained important, her young family became her focus. Irma was a lifelong member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church spanning over 94 years and her long, full, and blessed life is a testament to her faith.
With faith and family at the foundation, Irma enjoyed a very robust social life sharing marvelous experiences together with her lifelong friends. This included regular bridge club engagements, elaborate needlepoint, and being a longtime member of P.E.O., serving as President. She was renowned for her culinary talents, and highly regarded for her joy of entertaining friends and family throughout the years. Irma was an extremely voracious reader, possessing a deep knowledge of world history and biographical figures. Her zest for life and keen sense of humor throughout everything she did will be missed.
