The Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen approved an ordinance to set its 2025 Tax Levy, which came in slightly lower than the 2024 rate.

Aldermen held a public hearing prior to the start of its meeting on Monday, August 11. The board then voted to set the 2025 Tax Levy at $1.7247 per $100 of assessed valuation. The rate was recommended by the State Auditor’s office. This levy is $0.2363 lower than the rate from 2024. The motion passed with a unanimous vote.

In other news, Aldermen gave permission to the Sweet Springs Fair Board to close several city streets for the fair, which will be held September 11-13. Miller Street will be closed from Turner Street to the alley on Friday, September 12; and Main Street, from Marshall Street to Turner Street will be closed on Saturday, September 13.

The board also accepted a bid from Dale’s Driveway and Parking Lot Solutions for cemetery street improvements. The total bid came out to $19,870. The work will need to be complete prior to this winter.
