Another water main replacement project will begin in the City of Marshall after approval from the Board of Public Works on Wednesday, August 13.

MMU is currently finishing up a water main replacement project on College Street, with crews completing the transfer of services to the new main. MMU is now shifting its focus to the main on Park Avenue, from Sand Hollow to East Vest Street.

This main was installed in 1971 and has experience multiple breaks over the years. Underground Facilities Director Grant Piper says the project will extend the original main with a 12 inch C900 water main and provide a two-way feed for customers on North Park Avenue and at the end of Eastwood Street. The project will also eliminate a dead-end and improve flows throughout the area.

The board approved a motion to begin the project using in-house labor and equipment, with the budget set at $250,000.
