Marshall Public Schools officials, community leaders, and members of the public gathered Thursday, Aug. 14 at the new Marshall Intermediate School to celebrate the opening of the district’s first new school building in a half-century.
The Marshall High School band, along with cheerleaders from Marshall High School and Missouri Valley College, pepped up the crowd as members of the Marshall Schools board of education lined up to ceremonially cut the ribbon to declare the building open. During the ceremony, assistant superintendent David Reinke remarked on the vitality that schools bring to their community.
.
Supt. Caleb Petet reflected on his family’s legacy in public education when he paid tribute to the support the Marshall community provided when approving a tax levy increase in April 2023 making the new building possible.
Petet closed with a quote from a noted educator, Booker T Washington.
State Sen. Kurtis Gregory, school board president Bryon Jacques, and Marshall Intermediate School principal Amy Heuman also addressed attendees before the ribbon cutting. Tours of the building followed, led by members of the Marshall High School football team.
An open house is scheduled for Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m., intended to acquaint students in grades three through five who will attend school at the new building when the academic year begins Tuesday.
