The Sedalia City Council received an update last week on work to repair and reopen the Washington Street Bridge over the Union Pacific rail tracks.

The bridge closed again last year to allow engineers to design a fix that would allow two-way traffic to resume on the bridge at the eastern edge of the downtown area. City administrator Matthew Wirt says the city received a draft from HDR Engineering earlier this month and are awaiting a final plan they can take out to bid.

Wirt says the bridge will go through a thorough inspection to ensure that it can handle the weight needed to support emergency vehicles responding to calls north of the railroad.

The Sedalia City Council will next meet Monday, Aug. 18 at 6:30 p.m.
