
Six passenger on the Missouri River Runner experienced minor injuries when their eastbound train struck a trailer that became stuck on a private railroad crossing outside Pleasant Hill on Sunday, Aug. 17.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that the train was passing through Pleasant Hill around 5 p.m., when at a private crossing east of the city along Route 58, the train struck the towed unit attached to a pickup driven by a 64-year-old man. Six passengers ranging in age from 51 to 66 reported having minor injuries, but all refused treatment at the scene. No injuries were reported for either the pickup’s driver or the locomotive’s engineer. The passenger train was delayed for five hours but was cleared to proceed with the remainder of their route, eventually arriving in Sedalia around 10:45 p.m. and St Louis just after 1:30 a.m.
Amtrak has announced that trains 311 and 316 through Sedalia and Warrensburg will operate as a bus service Aug. 18, while trains 318 and 319 are operating as normal.
