The Higginsville Board of Aldermen held a public hearing to set the city’s 2025 tax levy, as well as a presentation regarding electric rates during its meeting on Monday, August 18.
The proposed 2025 tax levy was set at $.9880 per $100 assessed valuation, which cam in lower than the 2024 levy of $1.0330. The 2025 levy includes $.4399 for the General Fund, $.3631 to the Park Fund, and $.1850 to the Library. City Administrator Jeanette Dobson also noted that there was an increase of almost $5 million in assessed valuation for 2025.
Also during the meeting, Toth and Associates provided an Electric Rate Study Presentation. Dobson says the last electric rate study analysis was completed in 2014, with the last electric rate increase approved in 2017. Dobson says the board made no decisions on the topic after the presentation.
In other news, the board changed both of its meeting dates in September due to the Labor Day Holiday and to allow more time to work on the city’s budget. The board will next meet Tuesday, September 2, and Monday, September 29.
