A Marceline man suffered serious injury after troopers say he went off a Chariton County roadway Monday, Aug. 18 to avoid hitting a deer.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the 45-year-old man was driving his pickup east on Route E when at around 8:35 p.m., he came across a deer in the roadway. The truck swerved to miss, only to go off the right side of the road and strike the ground. The driver was flown to a Columbia hospital. Troopers say the driver was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
