The City of Brunswick has re-established a board aimed at regaining the city’s Tree City USA designation.

City clerk Sarah Clubine tells KMMO News that the council received an update at their Tuesday, Aug. 19 meeting on efforts to once again receive the designation from the Arbor Day Foundation. She says the board of volunteers will meet twice a year to discuss tree management issues, and will also need to submit an application to fulfill the designation’s requirements. The council also approved the city’s tax rate, with no comments lodged during a public hearing during the meeting. Brunswick’s rate will remain the same at $0.9309 per $100 of assessed valuation.

The council also received updates on the hiring of a new police officer and progress on improving the city’s sewer lines. Clubine also announced that the first round of street paving projects are complete, with fresh surfaces now on Harrison, Polk, North Madison, Breckenridge, and Buchanan.

The Brunswick City Council will next meet Sept. 16.
