Mizzou alumna Sophie Cunningham is the latest member of the Indiana Fever to suffer a significant injury, one that will sideline her for the remainder of the WNBA season.

Cunningham suffered a tear of her MCL in her right knee during the second quarter of Sunday, Aug. 17’s 99-93 comeback win at the Connecticut Sun. While she is expected to make a full recovery, Cunningham will miss the remaining nine games of the regular season and the playoffs. She becomes the latest player for the Fever to be sidelines by injury, joining Caitlin Clark, Sydney Colson, and Aari McDonald. In response, the Fever have signed guard Shey Peddy to a seven-day hardship contract, while releasing guard Kyra Lambert.

Cunningham had started 13 games in her first season with the Fever, averaging 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. The Fever are currently sixth in the league with a 19-16 record, and will host current WNBA leaders Minnesota this Friday.
