The Slater City Council held a public hearing Tuesday afternoon to review the city’s 2026 tax levy.

According to City Administrator Gene Griffith, the total rate was set at $1.0029 per $100 assessed valuation, down from the 2025 rate of $1.0263. The 2026 rate includes $.6439 for the General Fund, $.1596 for the Park, and $.1994 for the Library. Griffith also reported that the city’s valuations were up almost $1.2 million from last year.

The council passed both readings of an ordinance to set the 2026 tax rate as presented.

In other news, the council approved motions to allow Mayor Terry Jordan to sign for two Missouri Department of Transportation TAP grants for 2025 and 2026 for sidewalk projects on several city streets.
