The Carroll County Commission recently hosted its pre-construction meeting with the crews that will rebuild a bridge this fall in the northwestern part of the county.

Presiding Commissioner Stan Falke tells KMMO News that contractors met with commissioners and their engineers, Great River Engineering of Springfield, to finalize plans for the replacement of the County Road 180 bridge over Turkey Creek, two miles north of the Roads community. Falke says crews plan to begin the project Sept. 2, with the goal of completing the work by the end of the year.

Also this week, the commission finalized Carroll County’s tax rates for the next year, with the general tax rate going up by 0.4¢ to $0.2794 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. Falke adds that a separate fund addressing the spread of Johnsongrass will stay the same.

The tax rates were approved Wednesday, Aug. 20 by the commission. Also Wednesday, commissioners visited with representatives of the Green Hills Regional Planning Commission to update the county’s hazard mitigation plan. Falke says one additional meeting will take place in October ahead of the final submission of the county’s new plan to the State Emergency Management Agency, which would be in place for five years.
