Voters in Benton and Pettis counties, along with a handful of precincts in adjacent counties, will go to the polls in November to consider a levy increase sought by State Fair Community College.
The SFCC Board of Trustees voted Monday to put forward a proposed ten-cent increase to the operating levy, which if approved by voters would see the rate go to $0.4993 per $100 of assessed valuation. President Dr Brent Bates says if passed, it would be the first levy increase in the college’s nearly six-decade history.
.
Bates says while the college used state funding and private contributions to construct a new agriculture and mechanics building and a residence hall, the costs to maintain them continue to increase. So too is the equipment that prepare State Fair students for future careers in a variety of fields, from nursing to auto mechanics.
The proposed levy increase for State Fair Community College will go before voters in their taxing district Nov. 4.
