St. Louis Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas gave up ten hits in less than three innings of work, as the Cardinals fell to the Tampa Bay Rays 10-6 on Friday, August 22.

Mikolas allowed five runs as he picked up his tenth loss of the season. The bullpen didn’t fare much better, with Anthony Veneziano giving up a pair of runs, Ryan Fernandez allowing two runs, and Jorge Alcala giving up a run as well.

The Cardinals offense attempted to keep them in the game, with Nathan Church picking up his first Major League hit in the fifth, as well as his first MLB homer in the seventh.

Willson Contreras also homered in the seventh to get the Cardinals back within a run, but Tampa Bay responded with three unanswered runs to complete the victory.

The Cardinals fall to 64-66, now 17.5 games back in the NL Central. The Cardinals have today off, but will finish its series against the Rays on Sunday with an 11:10 a.m. first pitch.
