Changes to the by-laws and board policies of the Missouri State High School Activities Association that were prompted by the passage of Senate Bill 63 were ratified Monday, Aug. 25 during a special meeting of MSHSAA’s Board of Directors.

The remote meeting followed a two-week special ballot, where member schools approved changes to bring the organization in line with the new law when it takes effect Thursday. The new state law allows full-time home school and virtual school students to participate in extracurricular sports and activities in the public or charter school which serves where they live. Updated language through the MSHSAA handbook will refer to these students as “resident participant students”. A pair of policy changes also approved will include resident participant students in a school’s classification enrollment for district assignments, and adjusts the maximum enrollment size for schools involved in a cooperative.

The MSHSAA board also voted Monday to move this fall’s softball championships to Meador Park in Springfield, as renovations continue to the Killian Sports Complex which has hosted the state softball championships since 2010. Meador Park also hosted last spring’s softball championships.

The MSHSAA board will next have their regular meeting in mid-September.
