
Blackburn Mayor Kevin Lawson has resigned from his position effective immediately.
The City of Blackburn has announced the cancellation of the Public Impeachment Hearing for Lawson after the Board of Aldermen accepted his resignation during a special meeting on Wednesday, August 28.
Aldermen reviewed Lawson’s resignation during a closed session at their special meeting. Due to his resignation, the impeachment proceedings are no longer necessary and the September 4th hearing has been cancelled. At this time, the Board of Aldermen has not announced how it will fill the position.
Also during Wednesday’s special meeting, the board voted to set that city’s tax rate at $.8787 per $100 assessed valuation. This rate includes $.5178 for the General Fund, $.1053 for the Lights Fund, and $.2556 for the Temporary Fund. The estimated total revenue this rate will bring to the city is $26,617.
