The NFL has announced that Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice will accept a six-game suspension to start the season.

The league’s announcement Wednesday, Aug. 27 will see Rice suspended without pay after the league determined that his conviction for his actions leading to a high-speed crash on a Dallas freeway in March 2024 constituted a violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy. Rice will not only miss the Chiefs’ games against the Chargers, Eagles, Giants, Ravens, Jaguars, and Lions, he’ll also be blocked from practicing with the Chiefs.

The six-game suspension effective immediately came after negotiations between the league and players’ association, who balked at the NFL’s initial proposal of a double-digit game suspension for Rice. A disciplinary hearing had been scheduled for Sept. 30, but will no longer take place.

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the 14 players that will start the season on the practice squad.

Quarterback Chris Oladokun will again front the squad, as he’ll be joined by running back Carson Steele and safety Mike Edwards. Also among the practice squad members is linebacker Cole Chrisiansen, who appeared in nine games for the Chiefs last season, and offensive tackle Chukwuebuka “Jason” Godrick, who is the Chiefs’ designated international player for the second straight year.

Elsewhere, several Mizzou alums who were cut during Tuesday’s roster pare-downs are finding themselves on practice squads. Brady Cook’s time at the New York Jets will continue, after the quarterback played in all three of their preseason games. He’s joined on the practice squad by another Tiger, kicker Harrison Mevis. Running back Cody Schrader will again start the season on a practice squad for the Los Angeles Rams.
