
The St. Louis Cardinals took down the Cincinnati Reds in a ten-inning thriller on Friday, August 29.
The Cardinals took a first inning lead after a solo homer from Ivan Herrera. Cincinnati responded in the bottom of the first with a pair of runs to take the lead.
Pedro Pages put the Cards back on top in the second with a two-run home run. Masyn Winn added to the lead with RBI single in the third.
The Reds wouldn’t go quietly, chipping away with a run in the sixth, then tying the game in the seventh. Both teams traded runs in the eighth, with Winn coming through again with an RBI double, and Ke’Bryan Hayes tying the game with a home run for the Reds.
The Cardinals grabbed the lead in the tenth, scoring runs off an error and another RBI single from Winn.
Ryan Fernandez pitched around traffic on the bases in the bottom of the tenth to secure the save.
St. Louis improves to 67-69 with the victory, remaining fourth in the NL Central. The Cardinals will go for the series win today. Michael McGreevy will get the start. First pitch is at 5:40.
