Yousef Obeid’s 44-yard field goal gave the Missouri State Bears their first lead as a member of the Foodball Bowl Subdivision, but the feat would not last long in the hallowed Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, Aug. 30, as the USC Trojans proceeded to post their program’s highest point total in 95 seasons, a 73-13 snaring of the Bears.
After his previous drive resulted in a pick-six, Jacob Clark led the Bears down the field for their only touchdown drive, a 33-yard pass on fourth and five to Tristian Gardner. Clark finished the day 16-for-24 with 147 yards in the air, throwing one touchdown but two interceptions. He was also sacked five times. USC produced 597 yards of total offense, scoring six touchdowns in the air and three on the ground.
Missouri State’s welcome to the FBS came with a $1.15 million check from the Big Ten’s USC. The Bears will visit the Thundering Herd of Marshall next weekend.
